D10 Herculaneum

Herculaneum from the high level pedestrian approach. Looking right. You can see the cave like arches that house the skeletons of people who perished taking shelter from Vesuveus eruption fallout!

Center.

Looking left.

Looking left from higher up and futher back,

This is one of several arched cave like entrances that apparently were at beach level prior to the eruption.

This monument stands above the skeleton caves.

The garden of a villa complex.

Colleen on the street where they lived 2,100 years ago!

Remains of a floor mosaic in the fore ground.

One of the longer streets, right side,

Down the middle,

Down the left side!

The road and path’s are original with some preservation work in places.

A Tavern counter.

Allow much is original there has been some preservation/refurbishment work.

Todays buildings & houses surround Herculaneum as you can see higher up on 3 sides.

The exit bridge, entrance is at a lower level to the right of the skeletal caves.
